Cutting Board - Pikes Peak Dawn

Cutting Board - Pikes Peak Dawn

SKU: CC-202205

One of our favorite hardwood cutting boards: Pikes Peak Mornings!  The name of this board is inspired by the song "America the Beautiful", originally penned by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893.  Bates had travelled to Colorado Springs, CO via train and had journeyed to the top of Pikes Peak, where she was inspired by the "purple mountains majesty" and the amber waves of grain.   Inspired by the breath taking views site she returned to her lodgings in the Antlers hotel and penned the poem that very evening.

As a tribute to Ms. Bates poetic talents and her "purple mountains" as seen from Pikes Peak, this board features some amazing African Purpleheart accents, Maple center pieces and Walnut borders.

As with nearly all of our other products, we include free engraving so you can personalize this piece to make it your own work of art!

  • Care Instructions

First a REALLY important rule folks:  DO NOT *EVER* put your cutting board or other wooden products in your dishwasher!  It will ruin the finish and jeopardize the structural integrity of the board.  Do not soak or submerge the board in water or soap of any kind. Under no circumstances will we ever refund a board that even has evidence of soaking or dishwashing.

You may be asking: "Why?  You seem like you're being a bit harsh."  Fair question.  The short answer is that most wooden kitchen products must be finished with food safe oils and waxes of some kind (not just ours).  Oil when combined with soap and water simply does not mix.  The soap and water will carry the oils off the board, leaving your board not only unfinished and ugly looking, but also waterlogged.  We've all seen what happens to wood when you soak it in water, right?  It warps like crazy and can become structurally weak if left untreated.

    Our care recommendations:
Hot water with a little bit of dish soap in your sink followed by a quick re-application of Cask and Chisel board butter does the trick.  After each wash we recommend a buffing up the board with a little board butter.  When you start washing your dishes each night, start with your cutting board, dry it off completely, then take a break from all other washing.  Put a half-dollar sized drop of board butter on each face and all sides of your board, rubbing it in with a soft rag.   Let it sit for approximately 30 minutes, or until you're done doing the rest of your dishes :).  Give the entire board a once-over with a clean soft rag and buff it up a little, and bask in the amazing shiny goodness of your amazing work of art!
